Day 26.5: Student Work

I have been so swamped with grading for the end of the grading period I wasn't able to write last night, but as my mind is filled with student essays, I'd like to share some of my favorite quotes. They were all actually answering the same prompt, believe it or not...

"Cheering is more than what people think.  I mean sure, athletes life weights, but cheerleaders lift athletes."

"In a little town in Alaska, a cute purple narwhal was swimming around trying to go to the Blue School. Blue School was the most respected school in all the land, but it only accepted blue narwhals. The purple narwhal was called Benny. Benny decided that no matter what, he would go to the Blue School.
Benny was swimming around town when he saw blue paint for sale. After spending his whole allowance on a gallon of blue paint, he painted himself up.  He went to the Blue School the very next day, but they wouldn't let him in because they saw his purple horn. Benny went home very sad.  Benny asked him mom what to do and all she said was, 'Show them what they are missing.'
The very next day, Benny woke up more determined than ever.  He made sure all the blue paint was gone and he swam to blue school.  After talking to the president for a few hours, he finally convinced him to say yes. Benny and every other blue narwhals went to Blue School all because little Benny didn't give up."

"It was summer in Axle County.  Bill and Joe were outside shooting skeet. Times were hard in Axle. Jobs were limited to the educated and neither Joe nor Bill were qualified.  Both men weren't what you would call honest men, but their actions were to get by.  They were thieves like no other.
Bill was the smartest of the pair, graduating the ninth grade.  Joe on the other hand was an eighth grade dropout.  They had been friends all their life and had maany memorites.  Both ahd been to jail numerous times for one thing - stealing.  As the years grew on, they started getting a guilty conscience about their awful habits.  One day, a man known as Deputy Dave saw the two men walking an dpulled up next to them.  He told them that he had no hopes for them quitting their 'addiction' and sped off.  Joe and Bill just experienced the reality of what their stealing had done to them.
Three years later, Deputy Dave received a postcard. The postcard was from Hawaii and on the back was a message.  'Dear Deputy Dave, You should never judge a book by its cover...but in all sincerity we thank you.  Your friends, Bill and Joe.' The men received their GEDs, got a job, and have been 'sober' for three years since the day Deputy Dave expressed his honest opinion about the men."
